Product Review: Semilino

When offered the opportunity to try out the Semilino, I was super excited because Fun Factory is one of the most exciting, high-quality companies that I tend to recommend to others despite the fact that I didn't previously have too many personal experiences with their products. Other than getting excited when holding a Fun Factory product in-store and admiring their style and design, I lacked the knowledge of what they actually felt like in the comfort of my own bed. So what’s the big deal about Fun Factory?

Fun Factory is a German company committed to body-safe products and eco-friendly practices. This alone makes me happy to support and recommend Fun Factory for a large range folks, beginner to seasoned; they’ve got something for just about everyone. Their silicone toys are “silicone to the core” which, surprisingly (or not?) isn’t the case for a lot of silicone products on the market. I really admire their commitment to quality and was excited to learn that they were the first company to use medical-grade silicone in the production of vibrators. But the Semilino is why we’re here, right? Let’s get to it.

The Semilino is a smallish (subjective) pure silicone, waterproof, rechargeable vibe with more than a few exciting features. The vibe’s motor provides 6 intensity levels and 6 vibration patterns that vary from a delightful tease to a rock-your-socks-off growl. It comes in two colors, black and a neon coral that Fun Factory calls “vitamin”, both with a deluxe-looking pearlized gold handle.

On the toy’s handle are 3 buttons, including Fun Factory’s characteristic “Fun” button that allows the user to turn it on and off. And at the toy’s base is the magnet to which the charger is connected. It’s all sleek and no nonsense, it feels good in the hand, and it begs to be used. So after allowing it to fully charge overnight (the suggested protocol for all Fun Factory rechargeables), I was ready to test out the Semilino.

Its shape and size makes it practical for use both externally and internally, although I wouldn’t encourage it to be used anally due to the lack of a flared base. It is said to be a great G-spot vibe; the rounded head and very slight curve could likely hit the spot for many. But as someone who very much favors external vibration anyway, I can speak much more to the sensations the toy can provide against the clitoris, against the penis or perineum, or between the labia. In fact, the toy’s fierce ridges feel quite nice to rub/slide up against, especially with some good water-based lube.

Gotta love that glide...

And as for the vibration itself: I’m serious when I say this thing packs some power. But it doesn’t have to. Let me explain. One of the things I suggest to folks who are looking for a “beginner’s vibrator” is one that has range. And oh does the Semilino have range. Its lowest setting reminds me of a lover’s whisper, gentle but oh so pleasing. And then it ramps up to a steady full-on but still quite silent vibration before cycling through the unique vibration patterns that I’ll name Crescendo, Pulse, Throb, Pulse Faster, Flutter, and Big F-ing Tease. And these are totally not official names; just what comes to mind for me when cycling through. But in all seriousness, there’s something there for just about any sensation I can imagine craving, at least as far as vibration goes. Despite this, I would say that it isn’t the most “rumbly” of vibrations, especially when compared to one of my favorite vibes of all time… But it feels amazing nonetheless and without the comparison, I can find nothing that I dislike about the Semilino.

Ultimately, I feel that the Semilino is a great toy, especially for beginners or someone looking for something not too cumbersome. At the same time, I can definitely see a place for it in anyone’s arsenal (including my own) due to its reliability and versatility. The texture offers an exciting aspect if used for penetration (and even externally) and the slightly-phallic-but-not-so-much shape is fun and probably appealing for a variety of folks.
